Mirissa is one of the main beach destinations in southern of Sri Lanka. Mirissa beach is a magnificent sandy beach with calm, clear waters. It is less crowded compared to the other popular beaches and gives you a sense of privacy and peace that will sooth your senses.  This small sandy tropical beach boasts some of Sri Lanka’s best and most stunning sunsets.

Mirissa Beach is the perfect beach holiday destination with surfing, scuba diving and deep sea fishing being the most popular offerings. Southern sea is also one of the best places to watch dolphins and whales in Sri Lanka. Normally there are arrangements of short Dolphin Boat Trips. Tourists love taking these trips to sea because, apart from dolphin-watching, they are quite refreshing as well. The main whale-watching season in Mirissa runs from November to April, with sightings on around 95% of trips during this time.

Mirissa does have some relatively large waves – good for beginner and intermediate surfers. In particular a lot of surfers seem to gather near palm tree grove to ride the waves. If you’re looking to surf, the locals will be friendly enough to point you in the right direction.
